OAHE CHAPTER HOME BUILDERS FORMING IN PIERRE AREA

Pierre – A local home builders association is taking shape in the Pierre area. The group had its fourth meeting June 6 and plans to meet July 11 at Pizza Ranch at 11:30 a.m.

United Building Center salesman Heath Schnee has been elected President. Contractor Ryan Krueger was elected Vice President, Dan Dunagan of Farm Credit Services, Secretary and Cindy Fredrich of Home Federal Bank, Treasurer.

“The National Association of Home Builders is made up of local and state associations,” said South Dakota Home Builders President Dwight Eich. “In South Dakota, we have seven local associations and the state association.” Eich added that there are approximately 1,500 members in South Dakota. Local chapters include: Aberdeen, Black Hills, Brookings, Lewis and Clark (Yankton and Vermillion area), Mitchell, the Sioux Empire, and Watertown.

The National Association of Home Builders represents 225,000 members. NAHB is ranked 11th in Fortune’s Power 25 Advocates list. Along with the highly respected regulatory and legislative activities, the NAHB also provides education, news and information and networking opportunities. A member of a local association receives full membership in the NAHB and the South Dakota Home Builders Association

Home Builder Associations are made up of builders and associate members. Builder members are actively involved in construction, remodeling or land development. Associate members are members who are involved in businesses that support the housing industry directly.

Association activities are as diverse as the membership. Many local HBAs conduct Home Shows and Parades of Homes. Some are involved in service projects like “Repair Affairs” and “Extreme Home Makeovers.” Several home builders associations sponsor scholarships for young people interested in pursuing building industry careers.

The mission of the South Dakota Home Builders Association is to serve the membership and represent a united building and remodeling industry. The SDHBA:
• maintains a pro-active involvement in government activities affecting the building and remodeling industry.
• provides opportunities to enhance professionalism through communication and educational programs,
• promotes home ownership, quality affordable housing, and positive relationships among members and home owners.

The mission of the Oahe Chapter of Home Builders will be similar. The next meeting of the new chapter is a lunch meeting at Pizza Ranch, Tuesday, July 11 at 11:30. Contractors, builders and others interested are invited. For more information, contact Schnee at 224-0034.
